We are honored to share with you this old 350m2renovated farmhouse located near the Belgian coast.
We were faced with having to completely reimagine the interior while keeping the ancient structure to maintain the essence of the building. The big challenge was to comply with the very strict urbanistic regulations. We could not change the window openings, the roof materials and it was not easy to change the spaces. It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago the whole ground floor was filled with cows. When Pierre Hoet and Didier Bindels first came across this project, they knew right away how they were going to turn this barn into a beautiful family home. They were given carte blanche to reimagine the space and the interior design. The only demand was that the house and the mate-rials had to match the surrounding environment and nature. Every space has been imagined in a monochromatic theme color to remind the color of the sand. All the details have been-custom made in accordance with these guidelines.
The whole ground floor is spacious, with very little separation to keep the original structure of the house, which is what makes this house so charming and friendly. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all one. On the first floor, a huge concrete slab had to be poured in order to make the master bedroom, the dressing room and the mas-ter bathroom above the bathroom. These rooms were initially non-existent. Every square meter has been used to the full. One of the key features of the house is the personalized furniture and custom-made woodwork you can find in the different spaces. Our architects have designed and created bespoke pieces that not only complement the minimalist aesthetic but also provide practical storage solutions. This house was designed to be a family holiday home, so it had to be easy to maintain but also comfortable for the whole family. The fact that we could not change the openings for the windows finally allowed us to bring in as much natural light as possible.
